As employers that are also sovereign nations, Indian tribes must navigate a unique set of legal, social, community and sovereign immunity issues in managing the workplace.  Kate is experienced in assisting tribal employers in all workplace matters, from daily advice to litigation.  Kate understands that for tribal employers, respecting and maintaining tribal traditions is at least as important as legal compliance.

 

Indian tribes have relied on Kate's expertise in crafting employment policy, dealing with employee discipline issues, and managing medical leaves.  Kate has also defended tribal employers in tribal court from claims by former employees alleging wrongful termination, retaliation, discrimination and the like.
